I don’t know about you, but, as much as I love the warmer weather, I abhor pulling weeds! Just ask my husband! I will try and find anything else to do- scrub the toilets for instance- to avoid pulling weeds! But, if we want our flower beds to look good and not overgrown and choked out by the ugly intruders, then weeding is necessary.

Do you ever find yourself fighting with the “weeds” of life? Those pesky annoyances that keep returning? Much like our flower beds, life can sometimes feel like it’s becoming overgrown and choked out by weeds. Weeds you thought you pulled up by the root a long time ago or even sprayed with environmentally safe weed killer only to have them reappear. Maybe a bad habit you thought you broke or a negative attitude or even a self-destructive thought process. Maybe the weed in your life is a person who is toxic for you.

Weeds, for the most part can look like a flower and may be difficult to identify at first. It can fool us into thinking it isn’t the destructive, suffocating weed it is and so we let it grow until one day, it reveal’s itself for the harmful creeper it truly is. So, what do you do? You try and pull it. But guess what? That thorny, matured weed’s root is so deep now it’s going to take a lot more effort to pull than if you would have just taken care of it when it first sprouted. Weeds are easiest to pull when they first start to grow, before the root grows too deep.

 So What Does All This Mean?

Recognize the weed (those destructive things in your life) the minute it pops up from the ground and pull it before it chokes out your flowers (your life)! According to www.homeguides.sfgate.com, weeds are “generally plants that have absolutely no redeeming value as far as food, nutrition or medicine are concerned.” Sound like any “weed” in your life? Something strangling you and not adding value? No matter how often we weed though, they keep returning, so we have to watch with a vigilant eye and get to them before they take over.

Lying within the flowers, however, as we yank up all the things that are invading our lives, is the treasure of finding our inner beauty and strength to not only pull the weeds but to keep pulling them when they sprout up again. And, the best part is, if you lack the strength to get started or the fortitude to keep on weeding, all you have to do is ask God for help. He will give you the courage and strength you need to pull those weeds from the root! Philippians 4:13 tells us this: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (NKJV) So this is not a chore we must face alone or need to worry about having some uncanny knack for doing or a super green thumb, God will help you find the treasure by weeding through the weeds and soon your flower bed will reveal some beautiful blooms!
